Intermediate / Advanced Hands On Workshops

The following workshops are limited to eight participants allowing an opportunity to try the techniques discussed. Please note that these workshops are intended for intermediate to advanced potters.

  • WORKSHOP 1 - THROWING TIPS

"Make It Faster and Better"

Improve your efficiency and learn new throwing techniques. Some of the topics to be covered are: -throwing off the hump, throwing to a pointer, increasing speed without losing quality, tricks to ensure uniformity of work and efficiency of throwing, and throwing and assembling multiple parts.

  • WORKSHOP 2 - THROWING SECTIONAL POTS

"Build It Bigger, Make Ii Better"

Whether you want to make larger pots or simply add a distinctive flare to smaller pieces, joining multiple pieces can open up a whole new direction for your work. Some topics to be covered are:

  • Using combined sections to create taller, larger pieces
  • Applying pedestal bases to bowls, teapots or tureens
  • Centering large amounts of clay

  • WORKSHOP 3 - TEAPOTS

"Simple, Sectional, Fun or Funky"

Want to throw teapots that pour with a fine quiet stream with no drip? Now you can. We will explore teapot engineering and function. After examining how to design and construct a great teapot we will explore other issues including handles, body shape, cutting and assembling, swan neck and other spouts.

  • WORKSHOP 4 - LARGE AND LIDDED

"Casseroles, Tureens, Cookie Jars and more"

Choosing a lid type and fitting it properly, especially on larger pieces, can seem overwhelming. It need not be.

  • We will cover lids of all kinds and for all occasions including domed, gallery and seat and irregular
  • The exploration of lids would be incomplete without exploring handles: pulled, knob, textured, extruded and sprigged
  • Workshop is from 9:30 am to 4:15 pm.(lunch not included)
